Dec - Pancake Breakfast

Nov - Rockets at Richard Bong Recreation Area

Oct – Troop 45 went to Churchill Woods, near Glen Ellyn, for the Fall Classic, an important campout. We arrived on October 25th at about 6:30 PM. After setting up our tents, some of the Scouts hatched a plan to have a fire for 24 hours. The fire was lit around 9:30 PM, after which Scouts either went to bed or watched the fire. Overnight, a mammal dubbed “Rehan Raccoon” made several appearances to the joy of the Scouts watching the fire. After breakfast on Saturday, we started setting up many activities for the Webelos, who were coming to check out the troop. Some of these activities were a monkey bridge and the Ga-Ga Ball pit. The adults also strung up some turkeys for dinner. It soon started drizzling, but a little water could not stop the Boy Scouts. We soon had lunch, and the Webelos arrived. We did our first aid skits, talked about Boy Scouts with the Webelos, and hung out by the fire, as the rain was now coming down with more intensity. During this time period, Scoutmaster Miller announced that we would be sleeping at home tonight. At about 6:30, we had dinner, which was turkey, mashed potatoes, fruit salad, and rolls. Everything was prepared by the adults. Between dinner and when we left. After we returned and had an extensive cleanup, we left on Sunday morning at about 10:00.

Sept – The troop went to Mississippi Palisades State Park near Savanna, IL for a weekend campout. We arrived on Friday the 13that about 10:00 pm and set up the tents and dining flies. Afterwards, we played some fun card games and went to bed. On Saturday, we got up early and had a delicious breakfast and went to the Twin Sisters for rock climbing and a chance to get the Climbing merit badge. We climbed up and rappelled down an about 30-foot tall peak. It was really fun to climb on actual rock. 3 Scouts and I found a trail that summited the peak, we later used it to ascend for rappelling. After a long time, we left, but not before some Scouts got the badge. After dinner, we had a small campfire. On Saturday night, there were huge thunderstorms. Most of us didn’t get any sleep. We left on Sunday morning at 9:00, and stopped along the way at a place called Lookout Point for a good view of the Mississippi River. Overall, it was amazing except for the storms.

Nov -
We went to Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc,Wisconsin for a sub camp out. Thankfully it was not active but I got water sickness, 3 scouts helped me out. Before we arrived at the museum we had pizza at pizza hut .We watched a movie, took a tour around and then we went over the rules, it was fun. Manitowoc built 28 submarines during WW2 that were floated down the mississippi to the gulf of mexico. The submarine division was called silent service as it wasn't talked about to keep them safe . The sub that we stayed on USS Cobia is the most intact submarine in the nation and has the oldest working radar in the world . All of the scouts grabbed our stuff and set up and slept on bunks in the sub, I slept on a top bunk.  When we woke up it was with a dive, dive, dive alarm. The Scouts got down the bunks and cleaned up our stuff. Next we ate breakfast in the conference room in the museum. After that there was time from 15 min- 30 minutes to explore. Things we experienced was a submarine simulator, sea rover, model submarines and the water room.

Oct - Troop 45 went to Church Hill Woods for the Fall Classic. The Fall Classic is when Arrow of Light scouts come to checkout our troop. When the new boys came they explored a little.10-15 minutes later we gathered up into patrols to do first aide skits. After all of the scouts went to each patrol we did circle up. Once we were done we had a little break we played on the Monkey Bridge and had 27 games of GaGa Ball. A lot of scouts had to leave, but we had dinner and we had 3 turkeys that were cooking all day. Next to that was 15 lbs. of mashed potatoes. and for desert we had 6 dump cakes and after the camp out we had burned 1 cord of wood and I think we all had a great time. - LG
